Tis the Season to be Jolly…

Tree

Recently I toured my local Pier One Imports store (www.pier1.com) for holiday decorating ideas and got quiet a few good ones.  I decided to use the pictures I took on my Instagram and to write my blog about simple decorating ideas for the holidays to bring beauty to your home should your home be “on the market” for sale during the holiday season; but this morning as I was collecting my thoughts about what I had planned to say, I went back to where I was last Christmas.  I decided to share my real life experience along with some decorating ideas.  What better way to get to know me – Right?  So here goes…  Continue reading

Who Says I Can’t Wear OTK Boots?

OTK Boots

A day of shopping at the mall was centered around looking for shoes.  As I have written on my blog before, my shoes have to be comfortable and my feet have to be happy and pretty.  HA.  I have somewhat gotten addicted to the Over The Knee (OTK) boots.  Somewhat meaning I love the way they look but have struggled with whether or not they were for me being a woman over 50.  OTK boots have been around for a very long time but until this year I have never really even given them a second thought.  Because of Instagram, I am paying more attention this year.   Continue reading

#METOO!

#metoo

This is the face of a woman who was also Sexually Harassed.  #METOO!

I almost started not to write this blog but decided I should.  It is time for our voices to be heard and stand together as women against Sexual Harassment.  I guess the reason for my delay in writing was based on my warped thought process of thinking, “I am not a movie star, tv star, public personality etc.” but when I think longer and harder about it, I realize I am a woman who has had to endure sexual harassment in her lifetime.  This should have never been the case but it was.  And…it happened.

I look back to my middle 30s, when I worked in Corporate America, for a well known – down South textile company – I won’t name because it doesn’t matter anymore.  I had worked my tail off for this company for 14 years climbing up the ladder to make more money to take care of my family.  Going to finish my college degree at night – 6 1/2 years to graduating with honors and being promoted over night to a higher paying job in the Corporate Headquarters.  I thought I had finally arrived.  I had finally made it and everything was going to be roses.  Not true!

Having Millennial Age Children

Iloveus

Well, it has happened.  The precious smiling faces of my children above have finally made me feel old and ready to be kicked to the curb.  Now I know you may be thinking “What?” and maybe I am exaggerating some – but some days I don’t think I am.  Recently, I had the “pleasure” (said sarcastically) of having the flu.  Both of my children were too busy with their own lives to even stop by to bring soup or anything else.  My son, who has turned into a workaholic, didn’t even call.  My daughter, who is almost as bad about her job, called and asked once how was I feeling and all other calls were about her job.

Treat Yourself to the Dry Bar

IMG_4207

I had the pleasure of an invitation to The Dry Bar in Charleston, SC on Kings Street recently.  I had never really thought much about these types of places as I felt they were more for the younger girls.  When I received this invite, I accepted because I felt this was my chance to go and get a first hand preview of the experience.  I was so glad I went and had a great time. It was more than I expected.

Lace is in the house!

IMG_4222

As a girly girl, I am happy to report the new fall trends are lace and more lace.  I can even add that bell sleeves which you will see in stores are trending this season also.  What I love about lace is it is timeless.  It always makes me feel pretty.  The dark jewel tones are so pretty and I feel the fashion designers finally created a fashion trend for women who love being women and showing off our feminine side.

Baby Steps to Distressed Jeans

Destressed Jeans 1

If you look at the picture of me above, I am standing proud in my distressed jeans.  If you are laughing at me, I am laughing at myself too.  I love fashion so much – now more than ever, but distressed jeans will take baby steps for me.  I can tell you that I have looked at them in the store before and thought,  “Why would I buy a jean that looks torn to pieces?” I just can’t justify spending good money on something that has holes in it, but this seems to be the style for Fall.  These jeans are from http://www.WhiteHouseBlackMarket.com.  I purchased them two years ago.  I love these “boyfriend” style jeans because they are so soft and fit like a glove.  The jeans at WHBM always fit me well and wash up nicely.  Two years ago was about the time distressed jeans started appearing in the stores as a fashion trend.
